Maxillaria rufescens Lindl., Edwards's Bot. Reg. 21: sub. t. 1802. 1836[1835].

TYPE: A native of Trinidad, imported by Mr. Lowe of Clapton. Our description is taken from a drawing and flower transmitted from Chatsworth in Dec 1834, Lowe s.n. (holotype, K).
